A white Christmas looks like a real possibility! That makes me happy!

Local motels and restaurants rely on snow to draw in business. Snowmobilers, skiers, snowshoers, etc., etc., etc. don’t travel to NE Minnesota to see our brown grass and leafless trees. They show up for the snow. So, please do a little snow dance, say a prayer, cross your fingers . . . . . something. There are people and business in our community that are going to have a tough Christmas because of our snow shortage.

What can you really do to help? Shop locally! Look around for opportunities to share with your neighbors, friends and family.

Merry Christmas and may God bless you all.

There’s going to be some new stuff at Thomas Owens Park this holiday season. Notably, a Christmas tree and a skating rink. Sounds pretty cool.

Mayor Bolen said, “The whole park will have lights installed in the next two weeks as well as the installation of a skating rink and the new home of the community xmas tree.
A lighting ceremony is being planned as well as a community decorating party. Dates TBA.
The whole project is being developed and initiated through the TH Arts Commission.
Grants from the TH Area Fund, Minnesota Power and the TH Arts Commission are making this project happen.”

For those that don’t know our parks by name, Thomas Owens Park is on Waterfront Drive. It’s the one with the bandshell.

It is seriously icky outside. My driveway has a 15 – 20 degree upward (or downward, depending on your perspective) slant. I was outside monkeying around with one vehicle, and I heard something that made me look toward the van. It was sliding down the driveway toward the street! It had been parked for at least a half an hour. The snow is just that greasy and slippery. I pulled the van ahead again, and I’m hoping the thing stays put overnight.

Here’s a little something that I lifted from my ever-tolerant wife’s Facebook page. It really is a great story.

This is something the news won’t cover; throughout the year, Coach Nelson and his players, the football family, do some pretty awesome off-the-field stuff. They don’t talk about it. They don’t brag about it. They just do it because it’s the right thing to do. They did something last night that was so moving and heart warming that I’m going to share it because they do this kind of stuff all the time. They are more then just great players who give their all on the field and this is an example:
One of their teammates, a freshman who just moved here this year with his family, was injured earlier in the week while in school and suffered a significant skull fracture. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday. He begged to come and see his football team before they took off for the game. The coach told his parents THEY would come to HIM. The family lives in the Clover Valley area and there wasn’t room for the bus to get down the driveway and get turned around. So the team walked the quarter of a mile to the house of their friend. Hand in hand. The family was waiting outside and their teammate had no idea they were coming. Every young man on the team shook hands with their friend, hugged his mama and sister and shook hands with Dad. Then walked the quarter of a mile back to the bus to go play their hearts out against a giant. Their friend got to attend the game in a wheelchair with his dad pushing him up and down the sidelines with his team. THAT is the stuff this team is made of and I am so proud to be a tiny part of their lives.
